The Essential Correction

1997 Is the Beginning of Culdcept—Not of Arita's Work

Arita loved the original 1997 Sega Saturn game, but his own account places the beginning of his professional involvement in 2006, during development of Culdcept Saga for Xbox 360.

What followed was exceptional: approximately one hundred card illustrations created across a decade. Seventy-five were later selected for a self-produced artbook with individual commentary.

Artist's Own Statement

“I had been working on this series since 2006 when they started developing Culdcept Saga for Xbox 360.”

The Book as an Archive

Seventy-Five Works Explained by Their Artist

The artbook is more than a portfolio. Arita comments on every selected illustration, preserving the original idea, technical problems, composition choices and interpretation behind each finished image.

Its print-on-demand origin explains why it is less visible than a conventional commercial artbook. The official website confirms that Arita produced the original publication himself.
