THE PHOTOGRAPHER

NICOLÒ MURACA

Nicolò Muraca is an Italian advertising photographer based in Amsterdam. His experience spans several photographic disciplines, including portraiture, commercial photography, food photography, and still life.

He describes photography as a way of painting with light, building each image through lighting, composition, and the personality of the subject in front of his camera.

THE STORY

TWO VISIONSOF THE IMAGE

This feature presents a series of 19 portraits of Mitsuhiro Arita photographed by Nicolò Muraca. Rather than functioning as a simple gallery, the series is presented as an encounter between two creators whose work relies on light, composition, and the ability of an image to reveal character.

Throughout this series, Arita is no longer represented only through his illustrations, trading cards, or original artworks. For once, the artist himself becomes the subject.

Muraca's photographic perspective offers another way to encounter Arita: more immediate, more personal, and removed from the traditional documentary presentation of an illustrator's career.

For Nicolò Muraca, the session was also an opportunity to photograph a Japanese artist whose work he had admired for years. Beyond the portraits themselves, the encounter became a moment of conversation centered on art and creativity.

The complete story behind the photo session, along with Nicolò's own words and memories of the encounter, can be added to this feature when available.
