In 2006, Arita worked simultaneously in fantasy publishing, Final Fantasy XI and traditional brush painting. The first two Japanese Guardians of Ga'Hoole volumes credited him as illustrator, Vana'diel Tribune II published his official Final Fantasy XI imagery, and he created ten Chinese-ink paintings based on the Zen Ten Ox-Herding Pictures for a little-documented book.

4 August — ガフールの勇者たち 1 悪の要塞からの脱出 (Guardians of Ga'Hoole 1), by Kathryn Lasky, translated by Masako Meno and illustrated by Arita, was released by KADOKAWA; ISBN 9784040666228.

1 December — ガフールの勇者たち 2 真の勇気の目覚め (Guardians of Ga'Hoole 2) was released; ISBN 9784040680934.

Arita created a sequence of ten brush paintings based on Kakuan's traditional Ten Ox-Herding Pictures.

The ten works were executed with Chinese ink on drawing paper.

Arita's official English archive associates the series with a 2006 book described as A Word of the Priest: Solve the Problem of Life All the Time.

Culdcept Saga was released for Xbox 360 with Arita among its card illustrators, continuing a Culdcept collaboration that had already begun with the original series in 1997.
